Contrasting Styles of Inter-Caldera Volcanism in a Peralkaline System: Case Studies from Pantelleria (Sicily Channel, Italy)

The recent (<190 ka) volcanic history of Pantelleria is characterized by the eruption nine peralkaline ignimbrites, ranging in composition from comenditic trachyte to comendite pantellerite. ~46 ka Green Tuff (GT) was last these which followed many effusive and explosive low-volume eruptions pantellerite vents within caldera moat along rim. Although studies have shed additional light on age, petrochemistry, volcanology older there very little knowledge magmatism that occurred between primarily due scarce exposures. In this paper, we present new field descriptions geochemical data for three local centers never studied before, two pre-GT one post-GT, share a similar setting with respect scarps but differ terms their composition, eruptive style. These include: (i) (~125 Giache center (comenditic trachyte), (ii) ~67 Attalora (comendite, pantellerite), (iii) younger (~14 Patite (pantellerite).
